Tourism

Pondicherry today

The city of Pondicherry obviously stands out compared to its neighboring cities, such as Chennai, the capital of the region, in particular thanks to a certain identity which is specific to it and an almost independent and autonomous operation compared to the region in which it is located. Tourism, often associated with its name, is not comparable to that present in Paris for example, on the scale of a city or metropolis. While on the one hand, it is the engine of a growing economy and an important part of the national economy (because even in the imagination of stereotypes, when we think of visiting France, we think of Paris in the first place, in global unconsciousness), on the other hand, for Pondicherry, it's quite different.

It is obviously not very well known internationally as a tourist destination, and apart from the French tourists in general who come there, it is not unanimous among others. Of course, we will not be able to achieve such notoriety, in the medium term in any case, but it would be interesting to focus on the most important aspects of tourism.

Known for its quiet neighborhoods and where pollution is less compared to neighboring cities, Pondicherry would be an excellent candidate in the development of green tourism. We can cite some examples such as the Central Park of Pondicherry, described as the lung of the city and as the only place in the French Quarter where you can still meet some Indians and few tourists. It is also one of the best kept parks in the whole country. Of course, this is just one example among other parks or natural spaces. It is an essential asset of the territory to be developed in the future and in which the tourism sector can play a major role in boosting the local economy.
